About OUIGO

OUIGO is a low-cost high-speed train service operated by SNCF, the French national railway company. Launched in 2013, it revolutionised rail travel in France by applying the budget airline model to high-speed trains — single class, no catering, strict baggage limits, and à la carte extras. With tickets from €10, OUIGO carries millions of passengers annually on France's high-speed network.

OUIGO operates three distinct services: OUIGO Grande Vitesse uses modified double-decker TGV Duplex trains at up to 320 km/h on French high-speed lines; OUIGO Train Classique runs refurbished conventional coaches at 160 km/h on slower routes at even lower prices; and OUIGO España operates TGV Euroduplex trains on Spanish high-speed corridors connecting Madrid with Barcelona, Valencia, and Alicante.

All OUIGO tickets are 100% digital, with mandatory seat reservations included. Boarding opens 30 minutes before departure with ticket verification at the platform. Passengers can customise their journey with optional add-ons including seat selection, extra luggage, WiFi access, and pet transport through the OUIGO Plus package.

Booking Tips

Book as Early as Possible

OUIGO Grande Vitesse opens 9 months ahead, Train Classique 45 days ahead, España 365 days ahead. Cheapest seats sell out first.

Check Your Paris Station Carefully

OUIGO uses both central stations (Gare de Lyon, Montparnasse) and suburban ones (Marne-la-Vallée, CDG Airport). Allow extra time and budget for transport if using an out-of-town station.

Consider OUIGO Plus for Longer Journeys

OUIGO Plus (€9) is worthwhile for longer journeys — it includes WiFi, seat choice, extra luggage, and pet transport. Without it, WiFi and power sockets are not guaranteed.

Arrive at the Station Early

Boarding opens 30 minutes before departure with platform ticket checks. Access closes 5 minutes before departure with no exceptions.

Rail Passes Not Valid on OUIGO

Interrail and Eurail passes are NOT valid on any OUIGO service. If you hold a rail pass, use TGV INOUI instead for the same routes.

Frequently Asked Questions about OUIGO

OUIGO uses the same TGV Duplex trains as TGV INOUI but configured differently — single class only, no buffet car, and no first class. OUIGO is SNCF's budget brand while TGV INOUI is the premium service. Both run at the same speed on the same high-speed lines.

WiFi is not included with standard OUIGO tickets. On Grande Vitesse trains in France, WiFi is available only with the OUIGO Plus add-on (€9). OUIGO España includes WiFi with Plus and Max tickets. Train Classique has no WiFi at all.

Power sockets are available only in certain upper-deck coaches on Grande Vitesse trains — they are not standard at every seat. To guarantee a seat with a socket, you need OUIGO Plus for seat selection. OUIGO España has sockets under every window. Train Classique availability varies.

Some OUIGO services in Paris depart from Marne-la-Vallée (Disneyland area, ~45 min from central Paris by RER) or CDG Airport instead of central stations. Similarly in Lyon, some services use Lyon St Exupéry airport station rather than Part-Dieu. Always check your departure station when booking and factor in extra travel time.

Children under 4 travel free on a parent's lap (Toupti fare). Ages 4–11 pay a flat rate of €8 on Grande Vitesse or €5 on Train Classique. From age 12, adult fares apply. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Pushchairs travel free.

Yes, pets are welcome for €10 per animal regardless of size. Small animals must be in a closed carrier (max 60×35×35 cm). Larger dogs need a muzzle and leash. Guide and assistance dogs travel free. Maximum 2 pets per passenger.

Grande Vitesse trains in France have NO catering — the buffet car has been removed. Bring your own food and drinks. Train Classique has an at-seat snack trolley selling drinks and light bites. OUIGO España has the OUIBar cafeteria on the Sky Deck.

OUIGO tickets are emailed 4 days before departure, or immediately if booked less than 4 days ahead. Tickets are 100% digital — use the SNCF Connect app or print the e-ticket. You will need a valid ID for platform boarding checks.

Grande Vitesse TGV trains have wheelchair spaces with adapted toilets. Assistance can be booked through SNCF's Accès Plus service (48 hours notice). However, Train Classique is NOT suitable for wheelchair users — SNCF officially confirms the aisles are too narrow. Contact OUIGO customer service for alternative arrangements.

No. Interrail and Eurail passes are not valid on any OUIGO service (Grande Vitesse, Classique, or España). If you have a rail pass, use TGV INOUI instead, which serves many of the same routes and accepts rail passes with a seat reservation.

Yes. OUIGO España launched in 2021 and runs high-speed TGV Euroduplex trains on Spanish AVE corridors connecting Madrid with Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Valladolid, Segovia, and Murcia. The same low-cost model applies: affordable base fares with optional paid extras.
